Diflucan (fluconazole) is an antifungal antibiotic used to treat fungus of the bladder, mouth, throat, genital area, esophagus, and blood. Besides being used for the actual treatment of these conditions, Diflucan is often prescribed to prevent the occurrence of fungal infection in people with weakened immune system. If you are allergic to fluconazole, clotrimazole, sulconazole, voriconazole, ketoconazole, miconazole, sertaconazole, econazole, tioconazole or terconazole you must not take Diflucan as similar reactions are likely to occur. Do not combine this medicine with cisapride of terfenadine. Tell your doctor about having kidney or liver disease, a history of Long QT syndrome or a heart rhythm disorder before you start taking Diflucan as a dose adjustment may be required. Take this drug for the entire period of time recommended by your doctor as you are likely to feel better before the fungus is completely treated. Diflucan is not intended (and therefore should not be used) for the treatment of viral infections, such as flu and cold. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding avoid taking this medicine without talking to your doctor first: Diflucan can be harmful to an unborn or nursing baby.
